The Plan
Day Trip Itinerary
Depart
Grab coffee and hit the road south on US-26 through Swan Valley into Wyoming. Beautiful drive in itself.
Pull off at Antelope Flats Road as soon as you enter the area. The weathered Moulton barns perfectly framed by the Grand Tetons are among the most photographed scenes in the American West. Morning light hits the barns perfectly — your best photo stop of the day. Charlie can walk the gravel road with you. 15–20 min.
Short detour down a dirt road to the Snake River. Calm water reflections of the Tetons, and early morning moose, beaver, and eagle sightings are common. Easy roadside pullout. 15 min.
First priority stop. Get Kat's National Park passport stamp here. Watch the 15-minute park film, check with a ranger for any wildlife sightings that morning, and pick up the day's ranger program schedule. Extensive gift shop. Charlie waits in the car with AC. 30–45 min.
Drive the Jenny Lake Scenic Drive, stopping at the overlook for one of the cleanest Teton views in the park. Since trails are off the table with Charlie, enjoy the overlook and the lakeshore from the parking area — still stunning. 30–40 min.
The Mural Room restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows looking directly at the Tetons — one of the great lunch views in any national park. Let Charlie stretch his legs in the parking lot after. 45–60 min.
A paved 5-mile drive (no hiking!) that delivers a 360° panoramic view of the Jackson Hole valley from 800 feet above. Charlie rides in the car the whole way. Great payoff for zero effort. 30–40 min. round trip.
One of the "Famous Four" — the most photographed spots in the park. A crescent-shaped bend in the Snake River with Mount Moran reflected on the water. Prime moose, deer, and elk territory. Easy roadside pullout, no walking required. 20 min.
Where Ansel Adams made his most famous photograph — the Teton peaks rising above the winding Snake River. Quick roadside pull-off. Still just as breathtaking. 15 min.
10 minutes south of Moose. The famous antler arch, dog-friendly patios, great ice cream. A fun 30–45 min stretch before the drive home.

Back in Idaho Falls by 7pm comfortably.
